October. The changing of the Guard. The month of renewal, progression and change within Rowena.
In order for a Masonic Lodge to grow, it must change and adapt. There are times when stability dictates that experience holds the reigns (covid for a start!) but the moment the new guard have the chance to take the reigns, with their own style, they must be allowed to express themselves and excel, whilst upholding the principals and traditions of the order.
The future for Rowena is bright. Our new WM, Brian, has previously occupied the chair, but for the next 7 years, new WM's will lead the lodge in their own unique way. Rowena has a strong tradition of excellent ritual and for the first time in many years, Brian has the chance to lead a lodge of new officers, guided by the help of the 'old guard'.
The changing over of offices, or progression to the next degree isn't what drives a mason to excel. When you join Freemasonry, you agree to try and become a better person. Freemasonry isn't about personal achievement or progression in rank. Progression or promotion is rewarded for hard work and good intentions.
Brian took charge of the lodge as Worshipful Master for the coming year in an excellent ceremony. We look forward to his year in charge and what his individuality will bring.
